For our final project in Arch 3001, we were tasked to create a building in a slot that interacted with the Highline. our constraints consisted of not being able to manipulate the two long walls, around 50% of the building should be open-air, and should tie into our midterm project (hexagonal reverie). I created a wellness center, "Oasis NYC." the idea was to create a space in the heart of New York City where people can relax, meditate, and do yoga. the building consists of a 20 ft waterfall, a meditation pod, yoga studios, a stained-glass tunnel, and a juice bar, amongst other things.
(transcribed) "In the heart of Hudson Yards, the Highline is an elevated park people use to commute, gather, and relax. At Oasis, I explore different ways to relax in such a bustling city. At the core, Oasis is a wellness center with yoga studios, meditation areas, and a 22-foot waterfall that drowns out the city's noise. Also included is a Juice Bar with locally sourced ingredients provided from our farmers market at the Hexagonal Reverie (phase 1). Finally, a stained-glass walkway and an LED light tunnel that connect the two ‘wings’ of the center create an inspiring and otherworldly experience for visitors. The space is flooded with light as most of the walls are floor-to-ceiling windows, and in the spaces in the center of the site that don't receive light, skylights and LED lights help illuminate the space."
